Speaking at the SIS Global Forum, Urs Hölzle, SVP Engineering at Google, delivered an insightful presentation on cloud computing and machine learning.
Addressing an audience of leading E&P professionals, Urs explained why he believes innovation within the enterprise space needs to reach the same speed as in the consumer world.
In his presentation, Urs picked out two skills that humans are particularly good at: the ability to recognise patterns, and the ability to share information and collaborate. Although there’s still some way to go, Urs explained that in some areas it’s now possible for technology to learn to use these skills better than humans.
Things that were not plausible two years ago, suddenly seem to work
Touching on the many rapid and exciting developments, and referring to recent real-word examples, Urs went on to look at both the opportunities and challenges presented by cloud computing.
He also highlighted the importance of collaboration and partnerships in the development of cloud technology, and the benefits we can all gain by identifying and removing friction points when adopting it.
