The OLGA™ dynamic multiphase flow simulator models transient flow (time-dependent behaviors) to maximize production potential. Transient modeling is an essential component for feasibility studies and field development design. Dynamic simulation is essential in deep water and is used extensively in both offshore and onshore development projects to investigate transient behavior in pipelines and wellbores.
Transient simulation using the OLGA simulator adds another dimension to steady-state analysis by predicting system dynamics, such as time-varying changes in flow rates, fluid compositions, temperature, solids deposition, and operational changes. From wellbore dynamics for any well completion to pipeline systems with various types of process equipment, the OLGA simulator provides an accurate prediction of key operational conditions involving transient flow.
Pressure-enthalpy tables with impurities
As part of our continuous work for modeling CO2 and carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems, SLB is now introducing the use of equation-of-state selections for pressure and enthalpy calculations in multicomponent systems. The new KBC Multiflash® 7.3 package enables you to create PH tables with impurities. Symmetry™ 2022.3 also enables creation of PH tables. These improvements further expand OLGA simulator support for carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems.
Compositional tracking enhancements
With OLGA 2022.1, you can now define composition locally for each boundary keyword, without using the FEED key. This is handled by the new FEEDOPTION key, which is set to either FEED or TOTAL, where TOTAL is a new way of defining a composition. When using the TOTAL option, the compositions for a boundary can also be changed using controllers during a simulation or when usingOpen Platform Communication (OPC). This provides more flexibility for compositional simulations.
The use of standard volumetric flowrates for mass-based boundaries is also new in OLGA 2022.1. The RECOMBINE key now lets you select either IN-SITU or STD. For IN-SITU there is no recombination. For STD the composition is flashed to the standard condition and recombined according to GOR, GLR, CGR, WATERCUT, or WGR.
Expanded integration between OLGA and FieldTwin
The latest integration with FieldTwin™ from FutureOn provides improvements to the OLGA simulator profile generator. You can now import U-value and steel wall thickness in addition to the parameters available in previous versions. The OLGA simulator populates HEATTRANSFER keywords based on U value. It also creates simple walls using given steel wall thickness, single insulation layer, and U-value, applying the OLGA simulator’s built-in library. Further details on changes to OLGA 2022.1 can be found in the OLGA Release Notes which are available for download via the production software download server at the SLB Software Download Center.
The product is suitable for use by production, process, and flow assurance engineers, and those involved in multiphase flow simulation.
